5 Hot Season Range Rover Maintenance Tips

5 Hot Season Range Rover Maintenance Tips

Summer is in full swing, and that means your Range Rover needs a little extra care. Your 4×4 goes through more than the usual amount of wear and tear, especially in the heat.

Here are 5 hot season maintenance tips for your Range Rover.

1.   Check Oil Levels

Inspect your Range Rover’s oil level on a regular basis, like when you stop to refuel. Do this when the engine’s still warm but switched off so the oil has a chance to settle.

Remove and wipe the vehicle’s oil dipstick using a clean cloth and check the level. Ideally, it should be between the minimum and maximum marks. If necessary, top up with either a part or fully synthetic oil. Be careful of overfilling, though, as this can cause damage to your engine.

2.   Keep Tabs on the Radiator

Regularly inspect your radiator for any blockages or leaks. The radiator relies on uninhibited airflow to keep engine coolant temperatures low. If necessary, carefully remove any debris and make sure the fan automatically kicks in at the predetermined engine temperature. If it doesn’t and your engine runs hot, bring your Range Rover into us to have the radiator thermostat and fan checked.

3.   Keep an Eye on the Coolant Level

Coolant is important to the operation of your 4×4’s engine. Be sure to maintain the coolant at the recommended level in the reservoir bottle, not only during the hot season but always. Keep an eye open for leaks, too.

Don’t only rely on water for engine cooling. A good quality engine coolant, mixed per the manufacturer’s recommended ratios, will help prevent boiling when your engine gets hot. It also helps to defy the build-up of scale that reduces the cooling system’s efficiency.

Fill the coolant level only when your engine is cool. Never open the cap when the engine’s hot.

4.   Suspension

Uneven and bumpy roads can lead to suspension damage. If your Range Rover ride’s feeling a little rough, or you find your vehicle nosediving when you brake suddenly, there could be a problem with the suspension. If you suspect an issue, bring your vehicle in for a professional inspection.

5.   Check the Tyres

Properly inflated tyres last longer, and also improve your vehicle’s gas mileage. You’ll find the recommended air pressure on the inside frame of the driver’s door.

Don’t forget to regularly check your spare, too.

Ensure that your tyres have proper tread and aren’t worn out to make sure they see you safely through the hot season.

Bonus Tips

Check the Battery

It’s common for batteries to significantly drop in performance during high temperatures, especially if your battery’s on the older side. Watch out for warning signs like dim lamps or slow cranking, and if your battery is older than 4 years old, it’s time to consider a new one.

Mind the Brakes

Keep your brake fluid level filled up to the right level. If you notice any kind of leaks around the brake reservoir or brake drums or disk, or if brake performance just feels poor, it’s time to have your Range Rover professionally inspected.

Schedule Your Hot Season Service

It’s important to regularly service your Range Rover, to ensure it sees you through many more summers. Even if you’ve not yet reached the recommended mileage interval for a service, make sure you book your vehicle in at regular intervals to ensure everything is operating optimally for the long summer months and your 4×4 continues to be reliable, efficient, and safe.
